Do you set intentions for the month ahead or are you more of a go with the flow type person? For me I tend flip flop. Some seasons of my life I’ve been extremely goal oriented and others, well, let’s just say that asking me what I want for lunch at 11:59 am feels like a personal attack. It is what it is.
Now, during the pandemic, I think it’s fair to say that for a lot of us just managing the day to day stress has been enough. Goals, growth and plans just aren’t always in the cards. March, though, is usually the month that has me feeling the most motivated. There’s something about the promise of spring, the fact that we’re IN the year, but not halfway through yet…it just hits different. Of course last March was a different story. But this year, I’m starting to feel that old pull again. To plan, to sweep away the cobwebs, to commit to new and exciting things.
I’ve already started to declutter, I’ve redecorated certain corners of the house and I’m making a playlist for taking less cold and depressing walks. I think that this March my goals have to be all about pleasure. About feathering our nest, trying new recipes, committing to the things I know make me feel good (reading! hydrating! dumb tv!). It doesn’t have to be virtuous or growth oriented. Not in the midst of a global pandemic. This time, my intentions just have to be about being kind to myself and others. About trying to do what I can, when I can and knowing when to say NOT NOW.
That’s the lesson I’m taking into this spring from this wildly strange year. I can still be purposeful and walk with intention without making my goals super lofty. Sometimes, good enough is great.
